Google Ads is removing language targeting. Move the logic now
Google is retiring the campaign level language targeting setting and will match ads to the language a person is searching in using its own signals. For a lot of accounts this changes nothing. For the accounts that quietly used language targeting as a stand in for something else, it matters.
The common pattern is using language as a rough geographic or audience filter: target English to skip a local language market, or target a single language to approximate a diaspora audience. Once the setting is gone, those campaigns will start serving more broadly than you intended. Before that happens, move the intent into a durable control: location targeting, audience signals, or a cleaner campaign structure that does not depend on the language lever.
The full rundown of what changes and the migration options is in this piece on the language targeting removal. Multilingual markets feel this more sharply, and the Ukraine market note covers that angle.
Practical step: list every campaign that has a non default language setting today, write down why, and rebuild that reason with a control that will still exist next month.
